When Sarah Covert first opened Sarah’s Pet Care Revolution, she was coming from a nonprofit background. She has discovered that you can take the girl out of paid social justice work, but you can’t take the social justice-orientation out of the girl. Sarah’s values inform her decisions and have come to set the base for our business.

Driving around town on a regular basis to provide pet care was illuminating for us. We couldn’t ignore the amount of trash we created in just one day of pet sitting or the amount of gas we were using. Thus, our green focus was born. We recycle everything possible and try to reduce the amount of waste we create while on the job. We rely heavily on our bikes to get around the city and try to schedule smartly so that our necessary use of cars is still kept to a minimum. We have learned a lot about green products and share that information whenever possible with our clients.

The impact we make on the world isn’t limited to the physical environment. Our worldview that all people are inherently connected is at the heart of what we do. When we walk dogs, we are actively participating in community and we have the opportunity to either build that community up, ignore it, or break it down. We choose to be a positive force through simple actions: saying hello to neighbors, greeting children and helping them to have positive communications and interactions with dogs, and working with owners to address pet behavior issues that may negatively impact others around them.

We acknowledge that every single decision a pet parent makes is important and difficult. As pet parents ourselves, we know that a lot of factors go into what you feed your pet, what cat litter you use, or when and where to walk your dog. We don’t ask our clients to be perfect and fully recognize that we aren’t perfect ourselves. Rather, we want to engage with you in conversation and consideration about all the choices we are presented as pet parents. We want to empower ourselves and our clients to make a difference in the world through small decisions. Policy changes are necessary but we believe the personal is political and hope you will join with us in making a difference through your personal pet care choices.
