Local veterinarian Dr. Cynthia Benbow talks to WWNO about the benefits of acupuncture on pets–from horses to cats to birds. It is best used as a preventative but can also relieve pain without all the symptoms of medication.
The acupuncture needles are inserted into specific points and left in for 10 to 20 minutes. Most animals react very little to the placement of the needles and many get relaxed or even fall asleep during the treatment.
Acupuncture is just one of many holistic treatments that can be part of the best practices pet owners can consider to help keep their companion animal happy and healthy.
